FLOOD: Stop Blaming Gov. Diri – Group Blasts Udengs
Ibekimi Oriamaja Reports
Truth In Governance, a Yenegoa-based accountability organization, has called on Mr. Udengs Eradiri, the current Special Adviser on Youth Matters to the interim administrator of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), to stop blaming the Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, on the flood scenes.
This is contained in a statement the organization issued in Yenagoa the Bayelsa State capital on Sunday morning and made available to TrackNews Nigeria.
Part of the statement reads: “Climate crisis like flooding is a natural occurrence and not something caused by the state government. We believe that it is the right of Mr. Udengs to criticize as a citizen but not blaming the state government. Governor Diri is doing what is available in his capacity to end the tragic situation.”
The group argued that Gov. Diri deserved to be praised by all for his immediate responses to the water crisis that plagued the state, adding that he has been donating things as expected.
Preye Matthew, the Director of the group, further called on the Federal Government of Nigeria and the Nigeria Delta Development Commission to come to the aid of the flood victims.
TrackNews Nigeria recalls that Governor Diri has donated and released 450 million to people who have suffered losses as a result of the flood.
According to him: “The Federal Government should come to the aid of the flood victims and this is the same thing the NDDC should do too. Even, the NDDC needs to collaborate with the Bayelsa State Government to end the stories of sorrow caused by flood in Bayelsa everyday,
“The Federal Government and Niger Delta Development Commission should provide relief materials for the victims. They should find camps for those that are displaced. We need to save their lives.”
