Governor’s aide dies after stampede at Atiku’s rally
The Special Adviser to the Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuwal on Female Education, Aishat Maina, is dead.
TrackNews Media learned that Maina passed away minutes after attending the presidential rally of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Sokoto state on Tuesday. Atiku Abubakar, the presidential flag-bearer of the PDP had held his rally in the northwest state.
It was learned that the deceased was caught in a stampede that happened at the exit gate of Giginya Stadium, the venue of the rally.
Maina was rushed to the Usmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital, Sokoto for treatment, but unfortunately, she died a few minutes after her admission.
“A motorcyclist fell down from his bike at the exit way of the stadium and that caused a serious stampede, with people falling upon one another. She was one of the victims,” Daily Trust quotes a source as saying.
The deceased was the former chairperson of the National Woman Journalists Association of Nigeria (NAWOJ), Sokoto State chapter.
She leaves behind three children and parents.
