Gunmen kill two, abduct passengers in Kwara
Gunmen have allegedly attacked a 18-seater passenger bus and killed two persons in the process in Kwara State.
The gunmen also abducted unspecified number of other passengers in the bus in the incident that happened on Saturday along Obbo-Aiyegunle-Osi road, Ekiti local government area.
The registration number of the ill-fated bus was XC167MUN.
The gunmen were said to have shot into the vehicle, killing the driver named Akeem and one Mama Ariye, all of Obbo Aiyegunle town, it was gathered.
Kwara Police Command Spokesman Ajayi Okasanmi confirmed the incident.
He said: “On receipt of the information by the police in Obbo-Aiyegunle, policemen, vigilantes, local hunters and available members of sister agencies on ground immediately raced to the scene in an effort to get the victims rescued.
“Bodies of the dead were retrieved and deposited at Carosi Hospital mortuary for autopsy.”
Okasanmi said the Commissioner of Police Tuesday Assayomo had ordered that a massive manhunt for the perpetrators of the heinous crime be commenced, “giving a marching order to the Area Commander and the Divisional Police officers covering the area to move into the bushes to ensure that the kidnapped victims were rescued and the kidnappers arrested.”
He assured “that the perpetrators of the crime would be smoked out from wherever they may be hiding.”
The Commissioner has also directed “a-24 hourly patrol of the area in conjunction with other sister security agencies to boost the confidence of the people and to also prevent any further attack in the area.”
