Ibekimi Oriamaja Reports
Nicolas Aina, 28, was arrested on Sunday after stabbing his 64-year-old mother Caroline Adeyelu in her home in Dagenham, east London, UK.
Aina was charged with his mother’s murder and the attempted murder of another woman in her 30s, the identity of whom has not been revealed.
According to the Evening Standard, police were called to a property on Auriel Avenue shortly after 9:30 p.m. on Sunday, where Adeyelu was pronounced dead at the scene following an alleged attack.
The second woman, who had also been stabbed, was rushed to the hospital for further treatment. Her condition was not considered life-threatening.
Aina appeared at Barkingside Magistrates’ Court on Monday and was jailed in custody until his appearance at the Old Bailey on Thursday.
On Sunday, police officers in Dagenham, east London, investigated the house where the alleged attack occurred.
The incident was described by police as “truly shocking,” and a neighbor described hearing screaming on Sunday night.
“This is a truly shocking incident that has left one woman dead and a second with serious injuries and will understandably cause concern within the local community,” Detective Superintendent Richard Vandenbergh of the East Area Command unit said after the incident on Sunday.
“A man was arrested and is still being held, and it appears that this was an isolated incident confined to a single address.”
“Residents will have awoken to find a large police presence in the area this morning.”
“I want to reassure people that this is standard procedure when dealing with such a serious incident, in order for specialist officers to gather evidence as quickly and securely as possible.”
“You will also notice local officers in the area; if you have any concerns or information that could assist them, please contact them.”
