Insecurity: Foreign bandits in South-West, governors sleeping – ADAPHAI
By Adeleye Kunle
The Advocacy for Advancement of Peace & Harmony in Africa Initiative (ADAPHAI), has chided South-West Governors over the incessant attacks by bandits.
The civil society organization lamented the level at which gunmen were attacking citizens in the zone “without corresponding actions from the governors”.
National Coordinator, Comrade Sulaimon Suberu, noted that the strategic nature of the region makes it vulnerable to attacks.
In a statement on Wednesday, Suberu stressed the need for responsible and responsive leadership to protect residents from marauders.
ADAPHAI accused the governors of paying lip service to community policing, arguing that various vigilante groups and hunters in states are not properly coordinated and equipped.
“Foreign marauders have infiltrated all the forests in the South-West, unleashing mayhem on people, especially along the Lagos-Ibadan express road in recent times”, the body fumed.
Suberu charged the governors to rise to the security threat and collectively take measures to prevent further infiltration.
“Governors are possibly sleeping as foreign invaders are taking over their domain with audacity and determination to kill, maim and destroy the economy.”
ADAPHAI said the insecurity on Lagos-Ibadan road, which connects Lagos, one of the largest cities in Africa, was unsettling.
“The recent criminal activities of some foreign marauders in the axis is scary as it is provocative.”
“Chief security officers of the states are dangerously keeping mute while people are being killed and kidnapped for ransom on a daily basis.”
The statement warned the authorities not to allow the major highway to become another Abuja-Kaduna express road
