The Ondo Catholic Diocese has requested that the suspects arrested in connection with the June 5 attack on St Francis Catholic Church in Owo be prosecuted as soon as possible.
According to TrackNews, the attack killed at least 40 worshippers and injured at least 80 others.

The military had recently announced the capture of the attack’s suspects.

“The arrest of those responsible for the attack at our St. Francis Church in Owo is welcome news,” said the diocese on its verified Facebook page. “However, we believe that the criminals who carried out this heinous attack, as well as those who supported their evil efforts, must now face the full force of the law.”

The Vatican described the terrorists’ actions as “unspeakable violence” in a newsletter sent to the people of Owo.

Pope Francis also prayed for the souls of those who died in the attack.
