Just In: Tension As Another Explosion Rocks Taraba
Residents of Taraba State again got terrified on Friday after another explosion was heard in Jalingo, the state capital, Tracknews reports.
No casualty has been reported yet but residents confirmed that at least nine people were injured in the incident.
According to Vanguard, the explosion was heard in the Nukkai axis, bordering the Ardo-Kola local government area of the state.
It was reported that the deadly device exploded at night at the time the town was in a blackout due to a power outage.
Confirming the incident, the spokesman of the state police command, DSP Abdullahi Usman who was contacted on the phone, told reporters that no fewer than nine people sustained various degrees of injuries from the explosion.
He, however, could not confirm if there was any casualty at the time.
Meanwhile, a source had reportedly told Vanguard that the explosion happened close to the Ward Head’s house where there is a local bar and its aftermath left cracks on the walls of buildings within the site.
Naija News recalls that the latest attack is coming three days after an explosion rocked the same community.
At least three persons were killed and nineteen injured when the bomb went off in a drinking joint at a cattle market in Iware Community of Ardo-Kola Local Government Area of Taraba State.
The unfortunate incident took place on Tuesday, April 19th when an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) went off at the Iware cattle market, Naija News reports.
Meanwhile, the Islamic State in West Africa Province, ISWAP had claimed responsibility for the Tuesday bombing of the market in Taraba State.
A statement credited to the terrorist group on Wednesday claimed at least 30 people were killed and injured at the market where alcohol was sold.
The recent explosion in the northern state marks an expansion of the area where the ISIL affiliate operates in Nigeria.
A Telegram channel reportedly used by ISWAP, described those who detonated the bomb in the market as “soldiers of the caliphate in central Nigeria”.
The statement said the attack had struck “a gathering of infidel Christians” and expressed satisfaction that the drinking spot had been damaged. It did not break down the casualty figure into dead and injured.
