JUST IN: Woman Cuts Off 11-Month-Old Son’s Head After Being Ordered By Spirit
Police in Yonen, a community in the Ugep, Yakurr Local Government Area of Cross River State, have apprehended a woman who butchered her one-year-old child.
The suspect, identified only as Blessing Eno, told police that the heinous act on her biological child was ordered by a spirit.
The tragic incident occurred on Tuesday evening, according to Track News, and has left many in the community perplexed.
There is speculation that the mother of two is suffering from schizophrenia.
According to reports, she took out a matchet and cut off the baby’s head, claiming that the child was bothering her and that a spirit had instructed her to slaughter the boy.
An eyewitness who requested anonymity told Vanguard that it was her eight-year-old son who stumbled upon the gory sight of his headless brother that drew neighbours to the crime scene.
Police officers responded quickly to the distress call and stopped an angry mob from lynching her.
In response to the incident, HRM. Obol Ofem Ubana Eteng, Obol Lopon of Ugep and Paramount Ruler of Yakurr LGA, expressed shock.
The Monarch, on the other hand, assured the people that he was confident that the police would handle the situation professionally and logically.
“I had to convene an immediate meeting with my subjects because, even though what happened had desecrated the land, I had to ensure that further bloodshed was avoided,” he said.
“We made a direct appeal to young people in Ugep to follow the path of peace and rational thought in the face of this heinous crime, and they responded positively.”
“We are in shock, but we are calm, and we have left this matter in the hands of the police,” he said. “I can assure you that there will be no retaliation because we must remain law-abiding.”
