Ibekimi Oriamaja Reports

Ikenga Ugochinyere, the Peoples Democratic Party candidate for Ideato Federal Constituency in Imo State, chastised President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday for continuing to detain the leader of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, despite three different court orders.
According to Track News, Kanu was cleared of terrorism charges and ordered released by the Court of Appeal in Abuja.

A Federal High Court in Umuahia had also ordered the IPOB leader’s release, insisting that he be returned to Kenya, where he had been illegally extradited.

A high court in Abia State also ruled in favor of the IPOB leader.

In a statement, Ugochinyere, the Spokesperson for the Coalition of United Political Parties, stated that Kanu’s continued detention despite the court’s decision demonstrates that the government does not respect the rule of law.

He contended that it also demonstrates the president’s contempt for the Igbo people.

The PDP chieftain insisted that the president’s decision would harm APC candidates at all levels.

“I have observed with dismay the continued detention of Kanu by the Federal Government despite three recent court judgments in his favor,” the statement said.

“This administration’s total disregard for court judgments demonstrates that the APC government has no respect for the judiciary.”

“Not only that, but this development suggests that President Buhari regards Igbos as fools.”

“It is surprising that the President can sanction such reckless and illegal behavior by his men and agencies, despite repeatedly stating that only the courts will decide Kanu’s fate.”

Ugochinyere stated that the government’s action was an insult to Igbos, particularly the religious and traditional rulers who have repeatedly urged Buhari to release the activist.

Furthermore, he urged the Igbos to respond in a way that demonstrates their dissatisfaction with the Buhari administration.

“The President and his government’s hatred and disrespect for the Igbos should not be allowed to continue without the Igbos responding in a way that shows their annoyance.”

“I therefore call on all Igbos to respond to Buhari in the same coin by voting against all APC candidates at all levels in the election,” he added.
