Kebbi Deputy Governor Escapes Death As Bandits Attack Convoy, Kill Soldier

The Deputy Governor of Kebbi State, Col Yombe Dabai (Rtd) has escaped death after his convoy was attacked by bandits in the state.

The attack which led to a gun battle between Dabai’s security team and the bandits occurred along Kanya village in Danko/Wassagu local government of the State on Wednesday, Tracknews understands.

The Deputy Governor was said to be visiting some areas in the state affected by bandits activities when his convoy ran into a large number of bandits operating in Kanya community.

The Special Adviser to the Kebbi State Governor on Security matters, Rabiu Kamba who confirmed the development to TVC said the bandits were looting shops, houses, and rustling cattle in the area when the Deputy Governor arrived.

This prompted the Deputy Governor and soldiers in his convoy to attempt saving the villagers from the bandits but a gun battle ensued in the process.

One of the soldiers on the Deputy Governor’s security detail, unfortunately, lost his life during the gun battle while the bandits escaped with injuries and wounds.

Mr. Kamba however confirmed that the Deputy Governor was whisked away from the area without sustaining any injury.

Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari has condemned the bandit terrorists’ attack which resulted in the killing of 63 persons in Kebbi State recently.

The President in his reaction, expressed shock at the level of disregard for human lives exhibited by the bandits and promised to bring the perpetrators to book.

He also sympathized with the families and loved ones of the victims.

It will be recalled Tracknews had earlier reported that bandit terrorists killed no fewer than sixty-three local vigilantes in Kebbi State.
