Kidnapped nurse found dead in boot of her car as police hunt for ex-boyfriend
The body of 29-year-old Patrice Wilson was found in the boot of a car in Detroit after she was kidnapped following a shift at a nearby hospital by a suspect thought to be ex-boyfriend Jamere Miller
The body of a woman kidnapped outside a Detroit hospital has been found in the boot of a car as police hunt for her ex-boyfriend.
Patrice Wilson, 29, was leaving her job as a nurse Detroit Receiving Hospital when she was kidnapped early Saturday morning, May 13. Her abductor forced her into her car at around 7.40am, police say.
They added she’d been walking to her car after her shift when Jamere Miller, 36, approached her with reports he was wearing a blonde wig at the time. Patrice’s family have confirmed that she and Miller had once dated.
“He approached our victim as she was getting into the driver’s side of her vehicle he then got in the vehicle, forced her over, and fled with her inside,” Detroit Police Captain Donna McCord said on Saturday.
Patrice, mum to a young boy, was found in the back of an SUV at an apartment complex in Novi, off Haggerty Road between 9 and 10 Mile Roads. She had suffered a gunshot wound but it’s unclear how many times she had been shot.
Miller is still on the run with police issuing a warning that he’s considered armed and dangerous. Detroit Police have not confirmed if anyone has been taken into custody in relation to the kidnapping and murder of Patrice.
In a statement, the hospital said: “It is with deep sadness that we offer heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and DMC colleagues of cherished nurse leader Patrice Wilson, as well as Patrice’s mother, another dedicated DMC team member.
“Patrice was not just a co-worker but a loving friend to many at the DMC. Grief counselling is available for all staff at our Adult Central Campus hospitals.”
Patrice’s mother, Rosalind Livingston, said nothing seemed out of the ordinary when she last spoke to her daughter earlier in the morning of her kidnap. “We were just kicking the breeze, and she told me when she got off she was going to go work out, taker her a little nap like she does, and she was going to go to her other job this evening,” said Rosalind.
Rosalind also described Miller as being a bit obsessive. “The more she pulled away… he was sending flowers,” she said.
“If you go by her house there are things at her door that she kind of like left there to let him know I am not accepting things from you.”
Patrice is the second child Rosalind has lost. “Back in 2003, I lost a son,” she explained to WXYZ before Patrice’s body was found.
“He was riding his bike and he was 15 years old. A car hit him and I don’t know to this day who did that. So yeah I am going through a lot right now”.
