In order to prevent a breakdown in peace and order, Akwa Ibom Commissioner of Police, Mr. Olatoye Durosinmi, has ordered the urgent deployment of police troops to all Nigerian Correctional Service institutions in the state.

SP Odiko Macdon, the state police spokesman, said in Uyo on Tuesday that Mr Durosinmi gave the order at the end of a tour of the facilities.

He continued by saying that the command was required to avoid any disasters.

“CP Durosinmi visited penitentiaries in Uyo, Ikot Ekpene, Eket, and Ikot Abasi as a preventative security step.”

“On the two-day tour, he was accompanied by Mr Julius Ezugwu, Controller of Corrections, Nigerian Correctional Service, Akwa Ibom State Command.”

“Mr Durosinmi advised the officers to remain vigilant and courageous,” Macdon said.

According to the spokesman, Mr. Durosinmi asked Akwa Ibom citizens to go about their normal lives and report any suspicious elements to the nearest police station or by contacting 08039213071, 08189243935, or 08081388797.

Terrorists stormed the medium-security prison in Kuje, near Abuja, on July 5, freeing 879 detainees, including around 64 who were facing terror-related charges.
