Lafarge accelerates road safety by establishing the third Driving Institute

As part of its commitment to conducting business in a safe and healthy manner for all stakeholders, Lafarge Africa Plc has announced the establishment of its driving institute at its Ashaka Plant in Gombe State.
The North East Lafarge Driving Institute, the company’s third in Nigeria, is designed to provide industry-leading training programs tailored to the needs of Nigerian heavy goods vehicles (HGVs).
“At Lafarge Africa, we have a robust vision and well-defined road map to ensure the safety of the drivers and external parties involved in our logistics operations,” said Supply Chain Director Lolu Alade-Akinyemi. The road map, which was created in 2015, is constantly being improved to align with our road safety focus and key strategic intents in order to meet our ambition “0,” i.e., zero injuries and zero fatalities in our operations.”
Speaking at the event, Ashaka Cement’s Managing Director, Ibrahim Aminu, stated that the new driving institute demonstrates the company’s commitment to achieving the ultimate safety mission of zero harm in its operations.
“At Lafarge Africa, we recognize the need to equip HGV drivers with the basic requirements they require to operate such vehicles,” he said. As a result, ongoing investment in driver training and certification programs to ensure our drivers have the necessary skills to share the roads safely with other road users across the country is critical.”
