Lagos Gets Acting Commissioner Of Police

TrackNews reports that DCP Ayilara Waheed, the deputy commissioner of police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Lagos State, has been appointed as the acting Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command.

A statement by the command’s spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, on Friday, revealed Waheed’s new position.

His appointment comes about a month after erstwhile CP, Idowu Owohunwa, was promoted to the rank of Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG).

A law graduate from the University of Ibadan, DCP Waheed was at a time the Commander of MOPOL 2 with headquarters in Keffi, Lagos.

He was also the Chief Superintendent of Police in charge of Administration, CSPA, Lagos Command.

In the statement, Hundeyin said the new acting Lagos CP has directed all Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers in Lagos State to sustain optimum security within their respective areas of responsibility.

“He gave this charge while having a strategic meeting with the officers and other heads of department serving in the command in view of the approaching Yuletide,” the police spokesperson said.

“During the meeting, a comprehensive review of the deployment of human, material and operational resources, especially at identified strategic and vulnerable points across the State was undertaken; while deployed officers have been charged to remain professional, courteous but firm in the discharge of their duties.

“To ensure the effectiveness of these security measures, DCP Ayilara assures the public that there will be continuous monitoring and evaluation of the deployed strategies as required.

“The Command equally enjoins every resident to be vigilant, security-conscious, and to promptly report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station. The Acting Commissioner of Police expresses confidence that, with the collective efforts of the police and the community, the state will remain safe and secure for all.”
