Lagos Government send firefighters to training in UK

The Lagos State Government (LASG) has sent some firefighters to attend a training in the United Kingdom (UK) to help them improve on their job back home.

The spokesperson of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Ololade Agboola, in a statement on Friday said the administration of governor Babajide Olushola Sanwo-Olu made this possible.

Agboola said the new batch of firefighters sent to the United Kingdom for training will certainly sharpen their skills when they return to Nigeria.

The spokesperson added that the trining in the UK is in continuation of a structural capacity building as part of the rebranded Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service.

“You will recall that this administration had embarked on several programme to reposition the foremost Fire and Rescue outfit among which are; granting Agency status, enlisting 535 manpower, handing over of five new Fire Stations and 62 Fire Apparatuses to mention a few,” Agboola stated.

“Complementing this conscious efforts in tandem with Mr. Governor’s THEMES+ Agenda is upscaling the Firefighters who will be manning these laudable multi-billion naira facilities technique for optimal performance to the benefits of Lagos inhabitants.”

Agboola said that on September 18, 2023 another crew members of the pivotal State Agency had embarked on a course in International Disaster Management at the Bournemouth University, United Kingdom after an earlier batch did in 2022.

The crew which was led by the Deputy Head of the Agency, Olajide Ogabi were exposed to the latest and best global practices in planning, preparing, responding, mitigating and recovering from disaster and axillary emergencies cum crisis as well as building resilience.

Ogabi, on behalf of the team expressed his heartfelt appreciation to the government and was full of praises for the Governor for his unrelenting show of support to Public Order and Safety, in particular, the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service.

In his words, “in my over 31 years career, this is my first oversea training courtesy of Mr. ‘Governor’ Babajide Olushola Sanwo-Olu” when the Director of the Service, Adeseye Margaret received them at her office.
