University lecturers have been on strike since February 14, 2022, according to Track News, due to unresolved disputes with the federal administration.

They also want the 2009 agreement to be implemented, the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) to be replaced with the University Transparency and Accountability Solution, and better welfare for teachers (UTAS).

Strike Goes On, FG Doesn’t Do Anything – ASUU
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) branch in Abuja announced on Tuesday that their strike is still in effect.

The union stated that because the Federal Government has not yet acted on its requests, the strike will continue.

While speaking to reporters, Kassim Umaru, the head of the ASUU branch, urged the Federal Government to mention initiatives taken to terminate the ongoing strike.

Umaru revealed that during the congress, which took place on Tuesday at the University’s Mini Campus in Gwagwalada, the union discussed on topics relating to the strike and rejected the offer made by the Federal Government.

He added that the union’s National Executive Council (NEC) would convene at the conclusion of the four-week deadline to make a decision.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) is now engaging in industrial action, and the National Parent-Teacher Association of Nigeria (NAPTAN) has requested a meeting with the Federal Government.

In order to help the government provide additional funding for universities, the parents are agreeing to pay a charge of N10,000 per session in order to support the union’s demands.

Dr. Ademola Ekundayo, the public relations officer for NAPTAN, revealed this in a Tuesday interview with PUNCH.

While lamenting the protracted strike, Ekundayo claimed that parents were suffering as a result of the ongoing conflict between ASUU and the government.
