Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom described the late Dr. Obadiah Mailafia as a man with rare courage, who fought for the unity of the country.

Ortom stated this yesterday during a condolence visit to the family of the late Dr. Mailafia in his Lokoguma residence, Abuja.

He said Mailafia would be remembered for his courage, forthrightness and fearlessness in addressing national issues all of which he conceived and pursued for the good of the country.

According to Ortom, Mailafia lived a worthy life, urging the family he has left behind, his friends, admirers and well-wishers to carry on with his legacies.

He maintained that the seeds the former deputy governor of the Central Bank planted in the lives of many through his pursuit for justice and equity is germinating and bearing fruits and will never be in vain.

Ortom said Nigeria needed people like the late Middle Belt leader now more than ever, who could stand firm and speak truth to power to keep those in positions of authority in check. President, Middle Belt Forum, Dr. Bitrus Pogu, who had earlier received Governor Ortom and his entourage, thanked him for identifying with one of their leaders whom he noted believed in the corporate existence of Nigerians while alive.

The governor said even though Middle Beltans and Nigerians would miss him dearly, he is confident his voice would continue to reverberate in all corners of the country.
