Many injured in a fight between hoodlums and traders in Lagos.
Ibekimi Oriamaja Reports
A violent clash between motor park touts and traders at Lagos’ Alaba International Market injured scores of people.
At the time of writing, the motor park touts, also known as agbero, were exchanging bullets with police teams on the ground attempting to calm the situation.
According to Track News, the new market leadership directed the agberos to leave its territory due to complaints about increased toll collection from vehicles transporting customers’ goods.
They were said to be collecting up to N4,000 from each driver every day.
However, the toll collectors reinforced this morning, wielding dangerous weapons and attacking anyone in sight.
Seven people had their skulls broken, and others were injured to varying degrees.
As a result of the crisis, the popular market’s commercial activities ceased. Human and Vehicular movements were also hampered.
Policemen were still on ground to contain the situation.
