The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has responded to the recent agitation for a Yoruba Nation in the South-West region, describing it as “laughable.”

The DHQ’s reaction comes in the wake of an incident where Yoruba Nation agitators, dressed in military camouflage and masks, attempted to take over the Oyo State Secretariat and hoist their flag.

Maj. Gen. Edward Buba, the Director of Defence Media Operations, stated during a briefing in Abuja that such agitations only serve to highlight the self-inflicted nature of the insecurity plaguing the country.

Buba emphasized that these actions are unconstitutional and unacceptable, as they involve taking up arms against a constituted government. He warned that any individual or group contravening the constitution in this manner would face severe military action.

Furthermore, the DHQ raised concerns about terrorists and their sympathizers attempting to manipulate the media by portraying casualties from military airstrikes as innocent civilians. Buba urged the media to be cautious and not fall for the tactics of these terrorist groups.

The DHQ highlighted that their operations have been successful in thwarting the strategic objectives of these terrorist elements, emphasizing their commitment to maintaining security and stability in the country.
