More governors under EFCC scrutiny for stashed naira notes
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) announced on Thursday that it has placed more serving governors under its watch over stashed naira notes.
Abdulrasheed Bawa, the chairman of the anti-graft agency, stated this while fielding questions from reporters following his meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Track News recalls that, in response to the Central Bank of Nigeria’s decision to redesign some naira notes, the EFCC hinted last week that three governors who allegedly stashed money in their Abuja homes were under investigation.
Bawa, on the other hand, stated on Thursday that more serving governors have been placed under surveillance for illegally stashing cash in their various residences.
The EFCC chief declined to name the suspected stashers.
He praised the new naira redesigning project, calling it a significant step forward in the country’s fight against financial crimes and other forms of corruption.
