N8 billion in money laundering: Niger Delta Youth Council wants indicted individuals prosecuted

THE Niger Delta Youth Council (NDYC) has accused the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) of attempting to sweep a N8 billion money laundering case involving Diezani Allison Madueke’s daughter and Zamfara State PDP 2023 governorship candidate, Dr. Dauda Lawal, under the rug.

According to the group’s National Coordinator, Comr. Israel Uwejeyan, “as a youth group, we have been observing with nostalgia the dimension that the N8billion Money Laundering case has assumed.”

“We are deeply disturbed by the tactical exoneration of Dr. Dauda Lawal Dare from this N8billion Money Laundering case instituted against one of Diezani Allison Madueke’s daughters by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission,” the group said (EFCC).

“It is concerning for Nigerians of good conscience that everything appears to have been swept under the carpet in a case in which both Dr. Dauda Lawal and Diezani’s daughter were expected to answer charges.” The EFCC owes all Nigerians and President Buhari an explanation for why and how this case vanished from public view.

“The EFCC also needs to explain to all Nigerians and President Buhari how Dr. Dauda Lawal became emboldened to sue both the Federal Government and the EFCC, demanding a refund of the money allegedly laundered, to the tune of N8 billion, as eventually ordered by the Supreme Court of Nigeria – to the tune of N8 billion.”

“It is strange that today, while Diezani is still fighting EFCC litigation on the same matter, Dr. Dauda is now a free man moving around with all confidence because he probably believes he is now above the law.” Remember that he is the PDP’s flag bearer in Zamfara State.

“As a group, we are concerned about the EFCC’s involvement and see this as a case of selective justice against Diezani.” On the other hand, we believe that President Buhari, as a leader who belongs to no one and everyone, will ensure that justice is allowed to run its full course through re-prosecution, so that Dr. Dauda Lawal faces the full force of the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

The group urged the international community to press the Federal Government to re-arrest and re-prosecute the PDP governorship candidate in the interest of the Rule of Law, fairness, and justice.
