Osinbajo Leaves Abuja, Equaling Obasanjo’s Visit To Vietnam

Nigeria’s Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, left Abuja today for a three-day trip to Vietnam.
In a statement issued today, the VP’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Laolu Akande, stated that Osinbajo would visit the Asian country for a high-level bilateral engagement in the South-East nation.

According to Track News, Osinbajo’s visit to Vietnam will make him the second high-ranking Nigerian government official to visit the country after President Olusegun Obasanjo.

The visit will strengthen Nigeria’s long-standing diplomatic relationship with Vietnam, which dates back to 1976.

Osinbajo is scheduled to meet with Vietnam’s President, Nguyen Xuan Phuc, Vice President, Madam Vo Thi Anh Xuan, Prime Minister, Pham Minh Chinh, other government officials, and members of the business community.

“The Vice President’s reciprocal visit to the South-East Asian nation will strengthen trade and bilateral relations between both countries,” Akande said.

The Vice President is expected to witness the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding and Agreements between Nigeria and Vietnam, as well as hold high-level diplomatic discussions with his Vietnamese counterpart on trade, commerce, agriculture, technology, and innovation during his visit to the SRV.

In addition, the Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) will attend a Business Forum at the Vietnamese Chamber of Commerce aimed at connecting entrepreneurs from both countries.

Given the opportunities in agriculture and technology in Nigeria and Vietnam, discussions between the two countries would center on the mutual benefits of effective collaboration in these sectors, thereby deepening both countries’ friendly and trade relations.

In October 2019, Vietnam’s then-deputy Prime Minister, Vuong Hue, urged Nigeria to strengthen bilateral trade and relations with Vietnam.

Hue made the call while meeting with Osinbajo and other senior Nigerian government officials at the Nigerian-Vietnam Business Association.

The Deputy Prime Minister, who was accompanied to Nigeria at the time by senior Vietnamese government officials and businessmen, stated that Nigeria was Vietnam’s largest trading partner in Africa at the time.

The VP’s visit to Vietnam will end on Wednesday, December 7, 2022, and he will return to Nigeria immediately.
