Some CBN, NPA, NCC, NIMASA employees are paid more than Buhari —RMAFC boss

According to the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission, some public servants are paid more than President Muhammadu Buhari.The commission’s chairman, Mohammed Shehu, revealed this in an interview on Channels Television’s breakfast show, Sunrise Daily, yesterday. He also stated that some government Ministries, Departments, and Agencies, MDAs, lost up to N7 trillion in unreported funds.”Mr President’s salary does not exceed N1,300,000 per month…the President’s allowances are factored into that salary.””That was considered a lot of money in 2008, but now there are people in the private and public sectors who earn twice, three times, four times that,” he said.Shehu specifically stated that some government employees, such as those at the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, NIMASA, the Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, the Nigerian Ports Authority, NPA, and the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, earn more than the President.According to him, the NPA, which is one of the most profitable agencies, earned more than N172 billion in the first half of 2022.He noted that Nigeria had approximately 17 different salary categories across several agencies and, as a result, proposed the regularization of civil service salary schemes.While insisting that no public official should be paid more than the President, the RMAFC CEO stated, “What I was saying at the time is that no public servant should be paid more than Mr President’s, but we do have public servants who earn more than Mr President: NCC, NIMASA, NPA, Central Bank.”He also stated that some government officials received severance packages of up to N500 million, but that the President receives N10 million at the end of his tenure.The RMAFC chairman also stated that his commission would soon implement an upward review of judicial officer salaries, followed by a review of public officer salaries to reflect current socioeconomic realities.Concerning whether the government could afford to raise salaries in the face of declining revenues, he lamented the situation in which some government agencies spend all of the money they generate, claiming that some agencies had up to N7 trillion in unremitted revenues.As a result, he charged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, or EFCC, with going after the guilty parties.
