NDDC: Why Senate rejected Ondo nominee – Akinyelure
Following the rejection of the nominations of Charles Ogunmola as the Executive Director, Projects on the board of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, the Chairman, Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions and Senator representing Ondo Central, Ayo Akinyelure has disclosed that the nominee was rejected for not meeting up with the act of the NDDC.
While giving reasons for the rejection of Ogunmola, Akinyelure stated that he is not from the mandate area of Ondo State where oil is being produced.
On Thursday, the three Senators from the State kicked against the nominee over what they described as a breach of the NDDC act.
They argued that Ogunmola is from Owo in the northern senatorial district of the State as against the oil-producing Ilaje and Ese-Odo Council Areas in the southern part of the State.
The Senator, in a statement issued by his Special Assistant on Media and Strategy, Charles Akinwon, stated that the act setting up the commission stipulated that a nominee must come from an oil-producing area.
While emphasising that President Muhammadu Buhari must have been misinformed on the nomination of Ogunmola, Akinyelure appealed that another name of a qualified nominee should be sent to the Senate for screening.
“Though Mr Charles Ogunmola is from Ondo State, he is not from the oil producing area of Ondo State and that was why the three Senators from Ondo State unanimously rejected his nomination,” he stated
