Niger Governor directs security agencies to ensure violence-free LGs polls

Niger State Governor, Abubakar Sani Bello has directed all security agencies in the state to ensure violence-free local government elections slated for Thursday, 10th November 2022.
This is contained in a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Ahmed Ibrahim Matane in Minna, saying the state government is committed to safeguarding and guaranteeing a hitch-free process.
The SSG said against this backdrop, the government has declared Thursday, a state-wide public holiday to enable residents participate actively in the local government elections.
He explained that ” the public holiday is to enable residents of the state to actively participate by going to the polling units and casting their ballots”.
Matane said during the election period, markets and offices will be closed and the movement of persons and vehicles restricted, except for those on essential duties.
The statement said, “Government is urging citizens to go out and perform their civic duties on Thursday, 10th November 2022, as this presents yet another avenue to elect representatives and leaders who expectedly will work for our collective aspirations at the Local Government level
