“No mortuary or hospital could take my father’s corpse because he was a lodge member”- Adetoun
Adetoun Onajobi, an activist, revealed the difficulties she had after her father died, saying that mortuaries and hospitals refused his corpse.
According to her, her father’s corpse was rejected by hospitals due to his membership in the Ogboni Fraternity.
During an interview with she described the obstacles she faced, including the hospital’s rejection and the need to return her father’s body home.
Adetoun recalled her father’s death, recalling an armed robbery at their home that resulted in her father escaping.
When he died, the hospital refused to accept his body, citing worries about potential conflicts deriving from his membership in the Ogboni Fraternity.
“No mortuary or hospital could take him because he was a lodge member. The only thing we could do was bring him back home.” Despite challenges, Adetoun stood firm, and her father’s body was eventually placed in his bedroom.
She also noted the involvement of the Methodist community, as her father was a Methodist by birth. However, due to the sensitive nature of the case, they did not reveal the presence of the body in the house, fearing robbery attempts.
The issues surrounding her father’s death illuminated the complexity she faced at the time.
