Dapo Abiodun, Governor of Ogun State, has stated that his administration will combat kidnappers operating on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway, particularly the Ogun section of the highway.

He spoke yesterday in his office to members of the Leadership Newspaper management team.

Abiodun stated that the state, in collaboration with Oyo State, had formed a joint security team to beef up security on the expressway.

The synergy with Oyo was meant to ensure that the flash points between Lagos and Oyo State were well covered by security teams, he told the management of the Abuja-based newspaper who visited him to inform him of his nomination as the newspaper’s Governor of the Year.

He stated that over 30 patrol teams from Oyo and Ogun states had been formed to combat kidnapping on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway, and that the two state governments had cleared both sides of the road.

Abiodun stated that his administration currently has the largest footprint of any TechHub in the country, with partnerships from multinational corporations, and that his administration is laying an ambitious digital infrastructure project spanning approximately 5,000 kilometers across the state.

The Chairman of Leadership Newspapers, Zainab Nda-Isaiah, represented by the Editor-in-Chief, Azubuike Eshiekwene, stated that the governor was nominated for the award following an independent investigation into the governor’s activities.

“We present to His Excellency the award of ‘Leadership Governor of the Year 2022’ on behalf of the Chairman, Mrs. Zainab Nda-Isaiah.”

“The board meets once a year and makes decisions without consulting anyone.” We didn’t call you or any member of your team before choosing you as Governor of the Year; we sent people out, we did our research; we do it as a matter of conscience and duty to society,” he said.

Noting that Abiodun would be the first governor from the state to receive the award in its 14-year history, he said the governor had remained calm and focused in the face of extreme provocation.

The Editor-in-Chief stated that they sought a serving governor whose programs had made a significant difference in the lives of the community and who had a relatively transparent public service record, adding that they had seen the difference Governor Abiodun had made in the lives of the people of the state.
