Hoodlums armed with guns and other dangerous weapons attacked motor parks in Osogbo, Osun State’s capital, causing tension just 24 hours after Governor Ademola Adeleke was sworn in.

According to Track News, hoodlums claiming to be supporters of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) launched simultaneous attacks on four motor parks in Oke-Baale, Old-Garage, Ilesa Garage, and Aregbe Garage.

The hoodlums claimed the union leaders were loyal to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and had to make way for new administration supporters.

When the parks were attacked on Sunday, ten members and executives of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) were injured, while two police officers were shot.

On Monday, the attacks continued with sporadic gunfire at the parks as hoodlums attempted to seize control of the union’s secretariat.

Hoodlums chased union members from the park to the Ayetoro area with guns and cutlasses, forcing business owners to close their doors. The school gates were also hurriedly closed, and a car was destroyed.

In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, Adeleke directed union leaders to maintain peace across parks and warned against violence.

“All union leaders and supporters are directed to maintain calm and to bring any grievances to the State Government for resolution.” As a result, security agencies are directly responsible for maintaining law and order,” the Governor stated.
