Osun: Police, NSCDC, FRSC beef up security for Easter
The Nigerian Police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, and Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC, have given citizens assurances of adequate security in Osun State.
This is coming as the Federal Government of Nigeria declared Friday, April 7 and Monday, April, 10, 2023, as public holidays for Easter.
In a statement signed by the spokesperson of the Osun State Police Command, Yemisi Opalola, Commissioner of Police Patrick Kehinde Longe disclosed that adequate security has been put in place to ensure that the Easter season is celebrated peacefully without fear of insecurity.
According to the statement: “The essence of this announcement is to reassure the good people of the state about the readiness and level of preparedness of the Osun Police Command to guarantee adequate and watertight security during this period and beyond at all religious centres, social gatherings and leisure parks.
“Criminals are also put on notice that the Police will not condone any person or group of people suspected to be planning criminal acts as anyone found in this act will be dealt with according to the law.
“The Osun State Police Command further appeals to the public to always give prompt, credible and useful information in order to prevent acts of lawlessness and all infractions of the law.”
The Commissioner of Police urged the public to call any of the Police Control Room numbers, 08039537995, 08123823980 and 08075872433, for prompt action in case of infractions.
In the same vein, the commandant of the Osun State Command of NSCDC, Sunday Agboola, revealed that 1, 575 personnel have been deployed for a robust security arrangement and crime prevention during the Easter period.
In a statement by Adeleke Kehinde, the spokesperson of the command, Agboola explained: “Personnel have been emplaced on major roads across the state; patrol teams and surveillance squads will cover critical national assets, worship centres, recreation centres, market places, motor parks and shopping malls for adequate security of lives and property.”
While encouraging peaceful celebration, the NSCDC commandant enjoined members of the public to be security conscious and report to security agencies any strange movement in their environment.
Meanwhile, the Osun FRSC Sector Commander, Henry Benamesia, said no fewer than 1, 200 officers and other personnel would be deployed across the state to ensure free flow of traffic and reduce road accidents during the Easter period.
He said special marshalls would also be stationed in areas that are accident-prone to ensure that motorists comply with safety regulations.
