Oyo State police command vows to hunt political thugs involved in destroying campaign billboards
By Adeleye Kunle
The police command in Oyo State has vowed to pursue political thugs responsible for destroying campaign billboards belonging to rival political parties in the state.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the command’s spokesperson, SP Adewale Osifeso, stated that the Oyo State Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Williams, has directed his deputy in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department to launch full-scale investigations to identify those responsible for the destruction of billboards in the state.
During the weekend, he claims, some unscrupulous and criminally motivated agents of mischief and anarchy committed the crime.
The command also warned political leaders and other state stakeholders to rein in their overzealous loyalists and supporters who are motivated by ideologies of enforcing dominance and territorialism through “needless aggression and violence.”
The command also urged parents, guardians, and other opinion leaders to warn their children against being used as cannon fodder and destructive tools by desperate politicians.
It also stated that anyone found disturbing the peace or inciting violence through actions or words anywhere in the state would be “decisively dealt with in accordance with relevant Federation laws.”
