PDP BoT call for the Resignation Of Anyanwu As National Secretary
The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called for the resignation of Samuel Anyanwu as the party’s National Secretary.
TrackNews Media recalls that Anyanwu emerged as the PDP governorship candidate for the November 11 election in Imo state.
After he was elected the PDP candidate, some members of the party called for the resignation of Anyanwu as the national secretary.
But in a statement on Friday, the national leadership of PDP said Anyanwu remains the party’s national secretary and governorship candidate in Imo.
The party dismissed the claim that it had removed Anyanwu as a member of the National Working Committee (NWC).
However, in a letter dated October 12 and addressed to the acting PDP National Chairman, Iliya Damagun, the BoT said it is against the provisions of the party’s constitution for Anyanwu to occupy two positions.
In the letter signed by its acting Chairman, Senator Adolphus Wabara, the BoT said Anyanwu should have resigned from his position as the party’s scribe after he was elected as the governorship candidate.
The bot, therefore, asked the NWC to ensure that Anyanwu resigns from office immediately and focuses on the governorship election which is less than 30 days.
The statement reads: “Nonetheless, the BOT, as the conscience of the party, has the constitutional authority to call to order any member of the party acting in a way contrary to the guiding principles of our party and this is one of them.
It is therefore against the background of the above that the Board wishes to put it on record and state categorically that the NWC should do the right thing by ensuring that the Imo state gubernatorial candidate resigns from office immediately and focus on the election which is less than 30 days away.”
