The Nigeria Police Force has denied cutting off public electricity supply to the residence of Senator Dino Melaye as security agents maintains the siege laid on the lawmaker’s residence.

Recall that Melaye’s residence was stormed on Friday, December 28, by the police who are hellbent on arresting him for attempted murder, The Nation reports.

TRACKNEWS.NG gathers that Melaye, who is representing Kogi West senatorial district at the Senate, claimed he was out of Abuja and would make himself available to the police later this week.

The police, who have vowed to remain there till Melaye surrenders, said all legal steps had been taken to bring the suspect before the law.

Police spokesman, Jimoh Moshood, said: “As a matter of fact, we prefer that the place should not be in darkness so that it will be easy to monitor things properly.

“I can confirm that our men are still there and they may not leave until all legal steps have been taken to bring the suspect before the law.”

On Friday, December 28, Jimoh said Melaye “is wanted by the police for attempted culpable homicide, the shooting and wounding of a policeman on duty.”

He added: “Senator Dino is a wanted man and the police are only in the process of arresting him. Three months ago, a letter had been written to the Clerk of the National Assembly to inform Senator Dino Melaye of the need to report to the police in Kogi State and he (Senator Melaye) has refused to do so.”

Legit.ng previously reported that Senator Dino Melaye, representing Kogi West in the Senate, claimed that his Abuja residence was invaded by scores of police personnel.

Melaye raised the alarm of the alleged invasion of his house in a thread of tweets via his official Twitter account, @dino_melaye.

He tweeted: “All entrances to my residence in Mississippi have been secured by the police that claim there is no order to arrest me. One truck by centagon school too. Media and Nigerians take note. We have pictures of those involved.

“They have just zoomed off the trucks leaving 3 men at different end of my street wearing black.

“Two trucks with people wearing black in front on centagon school on Mississippi maitama. Toyota Siena at the entrance of Sangha street,gold colour Honda accord roaming the street.”
