In view of the rising tension created through the destruction of political parties billboards and campaign posters in Borno State by unscrupulous elements, the Borno State police command has prohibited the tearing of party posters and destruction of billboards, saying that offenders would be prosecuted.

The police also warned politicians and their supporters against carrying offensive weapons during political rallies, campaigns, or other political activities.

The Borno State commissioner of Police, Mr Damian Chukwu gave the warning while briefing various representatives of political parties on the code of conduct for politicians in line with extant laws for the upcoming 2019 general elections.

Chukwu also reminded the political parties representatives that political thuggery, intimidation of opponents and violent conduct of any kind will not be condoned before, during and after the elections in any part of the state.

“Politicians are expected to conduct themselves in a manner that will promote peace and tranquility in the society and also ensure the success and peaceful conduct of the electioneering process and the election proper.

“ As a political party or member of a political party , you are not expected to retain, organise , train , equip or procure any person or group of persons for the use of or display of physical force or any other form of violence during political campaigns and during the elections proper.
