Schools, banks, parks closed as Imo observes sit-at-home
Schools, banks, markets and other outfits in Owerri were closed on Monday in compliance with the sit-at-home directive of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
Our correspondent, who monitored the situation, reports that major streets, roads and public institutions were deserted as people stayed indoors to observe the sit-at-home order.
Though Monday was said to be public holiday, human and vehicular movements around the monitored areas were low as security agents were sighted on major roads.
It was also observed there was reduced vehicular movement in parts of Owerri such as Okigwe road, MCC and Tetlow while major business premises remained closed.
Small business owners, such as petty traders and mini shop owners, however partially opened for business despite the directive.
Motor parks, banks, markets, malls and bus stops in Owerri and environs wasfully complied with a sit-at-home order.
It was observed that the popular relief market and Lagos/ Abuja motor parks along Egbu road as well as the state-owned Imo Transport Company all in Owerri, complied with the order.
Also, popular malls such as the Everyday supermarket in Ikenegbu and bus stops such as the Fire Service Roundabout have remained scanty.
