Security agencies sabotaging Governor Ugwuanyi’s efforts – Ohanaeze
Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, the apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, has once again called for an end to the killing of Eha-Amufu indigenes in Enugu State by suspected Fulani herdsmen.
According to Track, Eha-Amufu has become a battleground, with several lives and properties lost.
Yesterday (Tuesday), Enugu State Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi called another emergency meeting of all stakeholders from Eha-Amufu, where major decisions were made.
Mazi Okwu Nnabuike, the National President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, praised Governor Ugwuanyi for his efforts in finding solutions to the carnage in Eha-Amufu.
Despite the State Government’s support, the group claimed that security agencies were not doing enough to save the situation in the area.
Okwu, who said he had been keenly observing the ugly incidents in the area, noted that despite the complex nature of the problems “the Governor of Enugu State, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi has done so much to restore peace and tranquility in Eha-Amufu.
“To be honest, this is not the time to play politics. We are aware of the Governor’s numerous interventions since this unfortunate incident began. “These efforts are commendable, and we thank the Governor for standing by the people,” he said.
However, the Ohanaeze youth president urged the Federal Government to bring the rampaging Fulani herdsmen to heel.
“Over the last few weeks, over 100 people of all ages have been slaughtered in Eha-Amufu.
“We are disappointed that the Federal Government has not expressed sympathy to those affected. This lends credence to some people’s belief that the killers have the government’s support.
“The time has come for President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration to persuade the entire world that it is not providing tacit support to the killers. They must be stopped from wreaking more havoc right away.
“We find it hard to comprehend why the killer herdsmen will want to push our people out of their ancestral land.
“It is even more curious that they launch these attacks from Benue State and return unchallenged. This must stop; the security agencies must demonstrate to the world that they are not complicit in what is happening.
“We call on the Federal Government-controlled security agencies to disarm the AK-47 wielding Fulani herdsmen who are slaughtering our people for the umpteenth time,” he declared.
