Usman, who took his time to explain how the incident occurred, said: “The Command received information that a police inspector who was on routine duty at a checkpoint in Sibre village at the outskirts of Jalingo used his rifle and shot a gentleman who was passing by the checkpoint.

“The Commissioner of Police immediately ordered his arrest. The Inspector and his colleagues posted to the checkpoint were all arrested and handed over to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the command for clinical investigation.”

The PPRO who noted that the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Alkali Baba Usman, has directed that police officers who wrongfully use arms on innocent citizens should be compelled to face the wrath of the law, said the command is working round the clock to unravel the rationale behind the shooting after which the culprit will be arraigned in court
