Upholding Constitutional Integrity: Addressing the Participation of Ezenwo Nyesom Wike in PDP Meetings

Published

on

In recent times, the integrity of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has been called into question with the attendance of Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, a serving Minister under the APC administration, at the party’s Caucus Meeting.

This raises serious concerns about the constitutionality and ethical standards within the party, especially considering Wike’s affiliation with the opposition and his actions against the PDP during the 2023 General Elections.

It is undeniably unconstitutional for a serving Minister under the APC banner to claim membership and actively participate in PDP affairs. Wike’s presence at the Caucus Meeting and his intention to attend the National Executive Committee (NEC) meetings undermines the principles of party loyalty and integrity. His dual allegiance poses a direct challenge to the cohesion and credibility of the PDP as a political entity.

Furthermore, Wike’s role in working against the PDP during the 2023 General Elections cannot be ignored or brushed aside. His actions, along with his allies, have undoubtedly undermined the party’s electoral prospects and damaged its reputation. To allow Wike to participate in party meetings without facing repercussions sends a message of impunity and condones disloyalty within the ranks of the PDP.

The leadership of the party has a responsibility to uphold the principles of accountability and discipline, particularly in instances where members have acted contrary to the party’s interests. Failure to sanction Wike for his actions would set a dangerous precedent and erode the authority of the party leadership. It is imperative that swift and decisive action be taken to address this breach of trust and loyalty.

The notion that one can “eat their cake and have it” does not hold in the realm of party politics. Wike is not above the supremacy of the party, and his actions must be met with appropriate consequences. The integrity of the PDP depends on its ability to enforce rules and standards that uphold the values of democracy, fairness, and transparency.

As concerned PDP ambassadors, we urge the leadership of the party to take a firm stance against Wike’s participation in party affairs. Sanctions must be imposed to demonstrate that the PDP does not condone disloyalty or betrayal. Only by upholding the constitutionality and ethical standards of the party can the PDP maintain its credibility and relevance in the political landscape.
