ENUGU—The EHA-AMUFU Community in Enugu State’s Isi Uzo Local Government Area has declared that they have not reached an agreement with Fulani herdsmen regarding their activities on their land or in the community.

Some members of the community claim that they have reached an agreement with the herders on how they should operate in their community and on their farm lands, despite the fact that discussions between them are still ongoing.

The Eha-Amufu community has recently been subjected to attacks, including kidnappings for ransom, allegedly carried out by Fulani herdsmen who have been at odds with the community over the destruction of their crops and farmlands.

In a statement signed by Tony Edeh and Comrade Louis Ede, Chairman and Secretary of the community’s Peace and Reconciliation Committee, respectively, the community denied reaching any agreement with the herders so far, but they admitted meeting with some Fulani leaders but have not reached any decision.

According to the statement, the meeting was held to discuss how to “put an end to the herders’ incessant killing, kidnapping, and other criminal activities.”

According to them, the meeting “has not been concluded, and no resolution has been adopted because we want to involve the government because the community cannot do it alone.”

They contended that any agreement reached without the participation of the government would not be in the best interests of the community.

As a result, the community urged the public to disregard any claim made “on our behalf because it is not the true position of our discussion.”

According to the statement, when the two parties reach an agreement with the involvement of the Enugu State Government, the public will be properly informed of the outcome.
