Yakubu, 6 Others Kidnapped In Abuja

Gunmen have abducted the father of the Vice Chairman of Kwali Area Council in the FCT, Alhaji Mohammed Yakubu, along with a pregnant woman and five others in Yewuti village within the council.

During the attack, a villager named Hussaini Kure was tragically shot dead.

Yewuti, the hometown of former Vice Chairman Alhaji Zubairu Jibrin Yewuti, previously experienced a kidnapping incident on April 22, 2023, where 29 villagers were abducted.

A resident, Ibrahim Danjuma, confirmed the recent incident, stating that the gunmen, armed with AK-47 rifles, invaded three houses around midnight, including the residence of the vice chairman’s father, Suleiman Idris, and abducted him along with six other villagers. Unfortunately, Hussaini Kure was fatally shot as he attempted to escape.

Etsu Yewuti, Mohammed Isyaku, who also confirmed the attack, expressed the community’s fear due to the gunshots during the incident. He appealed to the council authorities to collaborate with relevant security agencies to rescue the abducted victims.

The abductors have reportedly demanded a N30 million ransom, and negotiations are said to be ongoing, according to a family member of one of the victims who chose to remain anonymous.

The FCT Police Command’s spokesperson, SP Adeh Josephine, was not immediately available for comment, citing her presence in church, but promised to follow up with the reporter.
