Nigerian Air Force on Saturday stated that it has killed at least 70 terrorists in a border Nigeria shares with Niger Republic.

The Air Force said an air raid killed the ISIS-linked fighters in the region with aircraft from the Republic of Niger also in support.

The Lake Chad Area, which has become a habitat for terrorists since 2016 was the main focus of the air raid.

More than two million people have fled their homes in more than a decade that Nigeria has been bedeviled by terrorism.

Boko Haram, bandits and ISIS-linked terrorists have killed more than 40,000 people in the same period.

A statement from the Nigerian Air Force on Saturday confirmed that the raids happened on the 14th of April.

“Missions over the suspected locations … conducted on 13 April 2022 specifically sighted large number of terrorists, a likely logistics camp,” the air force spokesman Edward Gabkwet said.

“Over 70 ISWAP terrorists were either eliminated or severely injured,” he said.

Nigerian troops have had to battle terrorism since 2009 in the North East with Boko Haram and now ISWAP reigning supreme in the region.

Efforts by the military are often seen before the onset of the rainy season in order to dislodge the camp of the terrorists.
