Ibekimi Oriamaja Reports

The Super Falcons have been drawn in Group B alongside hosts Australia, the Republic of Ireland, and Canada for the 2023 Women’s World Cup, which will be hosted jointly by Australia and New Zealand.

Nigeria was chosen to play Canada in its first match of the competition at an unnamed venue at yesterday’s draw event in Auckland/Tâmaki Makaurau.

The FIFA Women’s World Cup will be held in nine cities (five in Australia and four in New Zealand), the most in the tournament’s history since it began in China in 1991.

In Group A, co-hosts New Zealand will face Norway, the Philippines, and Switzerland, while in Group C, Spain, Costa Rica, Zambia, and Japan will compete for qualifying spots, while European champions England will face Group B play-off winner, Denmark, China.

Other groups include the United States, Vietnam, the Netherlands, and the Group A play-off winner in Group E, France, Jamaica, and Brazil in Group F, Sweden, South Africa, Italy, and Argentina in Group G, and Germany taking on Morocco, Colombia, and South Korea in Group

H.

Nigeria, along with the United States, Brazil, Norway, Sweden, Germany, and Japan, are the only seven countries to have competed in every previous FIFA Women’s World Cup, from China in 1991 to France in 2019.

The Falcons were on a tour of Canada six months ago, and they played two games against the Olympic champions.
