Ibekimi Oriamaja Reports
Following warnings of impending terror attacks in Abuja, the Nigerian Army has shared phone numbers for citizens to report information on security threats via Special Call Centers.
According to Track News, the Army made the decision in response to travel advisories issued by some foreign countries regarding terrorist attacks in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and some high-risk states.
In a statement issued last Sunday, the US Embassy announced that it would provide reduced services until further notice and urged American citizens to avoid non-essential movements.
In addition, in an advisory issued on the same Sunday by its Embassy in Abuja, the United Kingdom advised its citizens in Nigeria to remain vigilant and carefully consider their movements.
The Australian government, for its part, advised its citizens on Wednesday to reconsider traveling to Nigeria.
Denmark, Bulgaria, Germany, Ireland, and Canadian authorities issued separate security alerts, urging their citizens to remain vigilant and refrain from visiting or doing certain things in the country.
On Friday, the Army released some numbers to citizens via his verified Twitter page, saying that the numbers would help its officers respond quickly to any security threat in any part of the country.
It advised citizens to dial the short code 193 or call the following emergency numbers: 07017222225, 09060005290, 08077444303.
“Kindly report any information that would aid the Nigerian army in combating insecurity via phone call, SMS, or WhatsApp to the following numbers,” the tweet says.
