The trawler is a commercial fishing vessel designed to operate fishing trawls.

Christened OLOKUN XII, the vessel capsized within the Lagos channel in the early hours of Monday.

Commander Edward Yeibo, Public Relations Officer of the Western Naval Command announced the intervention in a statement.

The spokesperson said the capsized trawler, OLOKUN XII, was towed by another trawler OLOKUN IV.

Yeibo added that the vessel capsized after it collided with a merchant vessel MSC CORUNA.

Those rescued were handed over to the officials of their employers, Barnaly Fishing Company Limited.
