Nigerians have been failed by the government and security agencies -Masari

Ibekimi Oriamaja Reports.

Yesterday, Katsina State Governor Aminu Masari accused the Federal Government and security agencies of failing to protect Nigerians’ lives and property.

His lament came on the same day that indigenous Katsina State residents in the nation’s capital, Abuja, expressed grave concern about the state’s recent breakdown of law and order, urging President Muhammadu Buhari to act quickly to stem the tide.

Masari told BBC Hausa Service that the people trusted the government and security agencies to protect them.

“The people rely on security officials and the government to protect them, and we have failed in that regard,” he said.

“However, if the root cause of the failure is examined, many security operatives have been killed.” Not even two weeks ago, a police commissioner, an inspector, soldiers, and officers were all killed while attempting to combat insecurity.

“Insecurity has affected not only Katsina State, but almost every state in Nigeria, as well as some of our neighbors, such as Niger and Mali.”

“We’ve made progress, but we’re still not where we want to be, and we’re praying to God to help us overcome and address the issue of insecurity before handing over to the next administration.”

Meanwhile, indigenous Katsina residents in Abuja have expressed grave concern about the recent breakdown of law and order in several villages and communities across the state, pleading with President Muhammadu Buhari to act quickly to stem the tide.

Residents told Concerned Katsina Youth Track news that the situation was not only displacing thousands of people locally, but also forcing a gradual exodus into neighboring countries, where they were exploited and often mistreated.

They noted that the situation was not only concerning but also embarrassing to the administration because it involved the president’s home state.

Mallam Abu Makera, the group’s spokesman, also stated that many of the non-state actors besieging their communities had rendered them helpless, and that killings, which had previously seemed frightening, had become a common occurrence in most Katsina communities.

“Bandits recently opened fire on President Muhammadu Buhari’s advance team as it traveled to Daura ahead of Sallah, near Dutsin-ma in Katsina, to highlight the state’s high level of insecurity.”

“This ominous security threat is becoming concerning and embarrassing because this is President Muhammadu Buhari’s home state and he is the country’s chief security officer.”

“It is clear that the situation is beyond the capabilities of the state’s security forces.” As a result, we’re taking advantage of this platform to urge the federal government to beef up security in the area before it’s too late. You must act immediately, Mr. President.”
