The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has reaffirmed its position under the leadership of its President, Ambassador Sukubo Sara-Igbe Sukubo, as the only authentic and unified body representing Nigerian youths and youth organizations.

Speaking after the Council’s inaugural National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held in Abuja on Wednesday, the National Public Relations Officer of the Council, Comrade Benjamin Adekunle Onileowo, said the meeting focused on rolling out youth development initiatives aimed at advancing the aspirations and welfare of young people across the country.

According to him, “The National Youth Council of Nigeria, under the leadership of Ambassador Sukubo Sara-Igbe Sukubo, is committed to roll out several youth development initiatives that will drive the emancipation of Nigerian youths and support their aspirations nationwide.”

Comrade Onileowo used the opportunity to clarify that there is no faction in the Council, describing those parading themselves as parallel leaders as impostors.

In his words, “We want to emphatically state that there is no faction in the National Youth Council of Nigeria. There is only one authentic leadership under Ambassador Sukubo Sara-Igbe Sukubo. Anyone claiming otherwise is an interloper, and Nigerian youths should disregard such claims.”

On the outcome of the NEC meeting, Comrade Onileowo disclosed that the Council is developing a five-year blueprint to guide youth empowerment and national engagement programmes.

He explained that the NYCN leadership under Amb. Sukubo Sara-igbe Sukubo is working closely with the Senate Committee on Youth Development, chaired by Senator Yemi Adaramodu, to push forward the National Youth Council of Nigeria Bill currently before the National Assembly.

He said, “The Council’s President is fully in support of the bill sponsored by Senator Adaramodu. He is one of the key stakeholders driving the components of the bill to ensure it succeeds and delivers the dividends of democracy to Nigerian youths.”

Comrade Onileowo further called on youths across the country to continue to support the current NYCN leadership, assuring that the Council remains committed to representing their interests in national discourse.

“Our call to Nigerian youths is to support the leadership of Ambassador Sukubo Sara-Igbe Sukubo. With their cooperation, we will continue to deliver on our mandate and defend the interests of youths at all levels,” he concluded.
