Ibekimi Oriamaja Reports
Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, has dismissed calls for his son to outdo Seyi Tinubu, the son of the All Progressives Congress’s presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, in organizing a successful rally.
Festus Keyamo, Minister of State for Labour and Employment and spokesman for the Tinubu-Shettima Presidential Campaign Council, made the remarks after Seyi held a rally for his father last week in Lagos.
The Labour Party presidential candidate said in a statement released yesterday by the Obi-Datti Media Campaign Office that he and Tinubu have more differences than similarities because the latter has continued to feed on public funds years after leaving the government house.
Obi stated that the focus should be on those seeking elective positions rather than members of their families.
“The attention of the Obi-Datti Media Campaign office has been drawn to a challenge thrown to the Labour Party Presidential Candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, by one of the opponent’s attack dogs, the Minister of State for Labour, Festus Keyamo, for his son to organize a successful campaign rally in his state Anambra akin to what APC flag bearer’s son Seyi Tinubu did for his father in Lagos,” the statement read.
“However, the attack dog failed to distinguish between the two sons and their fathers.” The only thing that Obi and Tinubu have in common is that they were both governors of Nigerian states. After that, one became a parasite to the state government, which he served with his entire family, while the other left government house and never received a dime from Anambra State. This claim can be verified by Keyamo and his other hirelings.
“Unlike Tinubu and his family, who have become stupendously wealthy despite having no identifiable industry or means of making money outside of the state government for over two decades, Obi has moved on with his private businesses.”
“If Keyamo had taken the time to thoroughly research the family for whom he speaks, he could have avoided this comparison that is bound to expose his principal’s parasitic life and understood why the entire household is headlong into the campaign.”
“Previously, it was Tinubu’s wife, Senator Remi, who threatened fire and brimstone over Lagos, then the daughter, and now the son is flaunting himself with a rally.” Do you blame people who are struggling to maintain a family business? The Tinubu family has seized control of Lagos State, which they now run as a family business.
“Obi’s family is not involved in his politics.” They live their lives and contribute to development without relying on public funds.
“The man seeking the mandate of the Nigerian people to serve as President is Peter Obi, not any other member of his family.” He has repeatedly stated that Nigerians must reject anyone seeking to be President by proxy.”
“As a result, we join our candidate in demanding that candidates, not their wives, sons, or daughters, seek the people’s votes and be scrutinized by the people.”
“It’s dangerous and unsettling when we can’t distinguish between public and private funds, and a serving Minister of the Republic defends and celebrates it.”
“However, that is precisely what Nigerian youths are out to stop through their take back Nigeria mantra,” the statement continued.
