Ibekimi Oriamaja Reports.

Politicians obtaining multiple nomination forms, according to Akwa Ibom State Resident Electoral Commissioner Mike Igini, is a violation of the Electoral Act 2022.
Igini made this claim during an appearance on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily.

Section 115 (D) of the Electoral Act 2022 states that “anyone who signs a nomination paper or result form as a candidate in more than one constituency at the same election commits an offence and is liable on conviction to a maximum term of imprisonment for two years.”

The electoral act 2022, according to him, refers to separate elections, whether presidential, governorship, senatorial, house of representatives, or state assembly.

He stated that any candidate who violates this law faces a two-year prison sentence, and that section 115 (3) makes attempting to obtain multiple forms a crime.

“According to Section 115 (D) of the 2022 electoral act, no person shall sign or obtain more than one form as a candidate for different elections,” he explained. In addition to the monetary penalty, he will serve two years in prison under subsection K. Some claim to have voted in one election and completed two forms; this is simply ignorance of the law, not an excuse. “We are keeping them from becoming inmates, and they are calling our names everywhere.”

A number of candidates have done this. “The only thing INEC can do is point you in the right direction. ” People are on their way to prison when they claim to have purchased two forms, which is illegal under Section 115 (D).” In fact, subsection 3 of 115 states that even attempting to do so is a crime. “If you purchased two forms for different constituencies as a candidate at the same time.”

A state assembly election is a constituency, a house of representatives election is a constituency, a senatorial election is a constituency, a governorship election is a constituency, and a presidential election is a constituency “They’ve already violated the law.

Igini insisted that INEC did not monitor the primaries that produced former Akwa Ibom governor Godswill Akpabio as Akwa Ibom North-west senatorial candidate Godswill Akpabio.

Akpabio had run for the presidential nomination of the All Progressives Congress (APC), but he dropped out on June 7 and asked his supporters to support former Lagos governor Bola Tinubu.
