Odibo’s appointment as a campaign spokesperson is rejected by the Labour Party

Ibekimi Oriamaja Reports

Obi Segun James: “RCCG’s gracious welcome has humbled me.”

Yesterday, the Labour Party (LP) rejected the choice of Charles Odibo to serve as its presidential campaign spokesperson.

In another incident, the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, responded to the enthusiastic reception he received during the Holy Ghost Service of the Redeemed Christian Church of God’s 70th convention.

Odibo was named head of the communication team for the LP campaign during a media briefing by National Consultative Front (NCF) leader Prof. Pat Utomi.

The LP claimed that the NCF lacked constitutional authority to choose candidates for the party in a statement from its national publicity secretary, Mr. Arabambi Abayomi.

The party emphasized that only Julius Abure, its National Chairman, could make such a selection.

The statement reads: “Our attention has been called to the fact that one Mr. Charles Odibo has been nominated as the spokesman of the Labour Party by Prof. Pat Utomi. This information has been intercepted through multiple news mediums.”

It is debatable if LP would have made such an appointment given that Utomi, the NCF’s leader, is unable to assume the position of National Chairman.

For the record, Utomi, the head of the NCF, a powerful LP affiliate, introduced Charles Odibo as the media director of the “Big Tent,” an acronym for the NCF, during a Zoom meeting. No mention of the LP was made on that platform.

All LP appointments are made through the national chairman’s office, and the national publicity secretary makes announcements on the national chairman’s behalf.

Abayomi stated that the national chairman of the party reserves the power to appoint people in accordance with article 14 subsection 1(a) of the party’s constitution.

Yesterday, Peter Obi posted on his Twitter account, @PeterObi, that the worshipers at the RCCG had humbled him.

Writing during the RCCG Convention, he said, “Sharing moments of authentic worship last night with a wonderful congregation was a tremendous experience of joy, strength, and love for me.

Obi said, “I was humbled by the kind greeting, but above all, I am grateful for the chance to be with the brethren.

During his visit to the Redemption Camp on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway to honor the church’s 70th anniversary and 40th annual convention, Obi, a former governor of Anambra State, received a resounding welcome.

Obi attended the convention’s fifth day at the global headquarters of RCCG on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

The “Perfect Jubilee”-themed event kicked off on August 8 and will run through August 14 on Sunday.

Along with other dignitaries, Bishop Francis Wale-Oke, President of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Mrs. Bamidele Abiodun, and other officials, Obi was presented.
