Ibekimi Oriamaja Reports.
The Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, has paid glowing tribute to the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi, on his 61st birthday.
Dr Chiedozie Alex Ogbonnia, Publicity Secretary of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, described Obi as “a rejected stone that has finally become the chief corner stone” in a carefully crafted goodwill message.
Ohanaeze went on to call the former Anambra State governor “an illustrious Igbo son without a dent.”
The full text of the message titled ” Ohanaeze Ndigbo Felicitates Obi @ 61: ” is provided below.
His Excellency Mr. Peter Gregory Obi, CON, the former Governor of Anambra State and the Presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 general elections, is being feted by millions of admirers as a game changer, soldier of morals, democracy archetype, the popular sentiment of youth politics, an abundant philosopher, prudent resource manager, ethnic barrier-breaker, and a quintessential Igbo audacious icon.
“The Obi path is dotted with ingenuity and resourcefulness at every turn.” He was the Chairman of Next International Nigeria Ltd, as well as the Chairman and Director of Guardian Express Mortgage Bank Ltd and Guardian Express Bank Plc. He was also the Chairman of Future View Securities Ltd, Paymaster Nigeria Ltd, Chams Nigeria Ltd, Data Corp Ltd, and Card Centre Ltd. Obi was the youngest chairman of Fidelity Bank Plc before being elected governor of Anambra State.
“Obi continues to be that exceptional Nigerian politician who served as a state governor and left office without taint, tarnish, or blemish.”
“While Obi was busy establishing good governance standards for posterity, some other myopic, timid, and mundane governors were busy with unconscionable primitive acquisition of wealth to the detriment or impoverishment of the very masses who elected them.” What a disaster!
“The current events in Nigeria’s democratic space are a veritable lesson for the incumbent as well as future generations.” Between 2006 and 2014, Obi was the governor of Anambra State.
“What stands for Obi today is the outstanding quality service he provided to his people as governor, as well as the dispositional humility, character comeliness, and intellectual acumen that characterize his public conducts.”
“Today, Obi is widely admired and embraced by the oppressed, dispossessed, and downtrodden on the one hand, and openly depressing to oppressors, predators, and political marauders on the other.”
“An age-old maxim founded on reason, experience, and truth holds that a good name is far superior to money, silver, or gold.” This adage has never been more true than in the case of the contagious Peter Obi phenomenon. How else to explain the current intimidating Obi movement in Nigeria: a man whose track record of accomplishments has counterbalanced the regrettable and despicable tailspin of Nigerian bourgeois cash and carry democracy?
“On the other hand, Obi is now revered across Nigeria, not because of his vast wealth, but because of the irrepressible plastic power of good over evil, light over darkness, and virtues over vices.”
“Ambassador Professor George Obiozor, President General of Ohanaeze ndigbo Worldwide, is overjoyed that the rejected stone has seamlessly become the cornerstone that attracts the Nigerian grassroots, including men and women of timber and caliber.”
“My brother, Okwute, be assured that July 19 will remain a day in history: a day a great African was born into Agulu community, Anambra State, Nigeria: a man who was able to change the political narratives of the most populous and backward African country with a mere force of morals, uprightness, persuasions, and goodwill.”
“We wish you many happy returns and the fulfillment of God’s purpose in your life on behalf of all the organs of Ohanaeze Ndigbo and indeed all sons and daughters of Igbo Land both at home and in the diaspora.”
