Ohanaeze warns Kanu not to die in custody.

Ibekimi Oriamaja Reports

Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, advised Thursday that the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, should not die in the custody of the Directorate of State Services (DSS).

It bemoaned Kanu’s failing health, maintaining its previous position that his case should be resolved politically rather than through force or law.

In response to news on Kanu’s health condition from his attorney, Ifeanyi Ejiofor, Ohanaeze requested in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Dr Alex Ogbonnia, that Kanu be provided access to his doctor for an impartial examination of his present health status.

On Monday, Ejiofor warned that Kanu was “now suffering from gastrointestinal disease, necessitating the continual use of antacids and other accessible medical therapies.”

“The DSS has refused to allow him to receive even the smallest amount of prescribed medicine, which could have provided him with short-term relief,” he claimed.

According to the Igbo socio-cultural organization, the study should worry any patriotic Nigerian.

“This is because it is self-evident that the Kanu phenomenon is a consequence of circumstances,” it stated. It is rather the result of an intentional isolation of the South East from Nigeria’s centers of power, particularly since the start of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.

“Patriots like Chief E K Clarke, Chief Ayo Adebanjo, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, and Dr. Bitrus Porgu, among others, have condemned the inequitable treatment of the Igbo of the South East.” The Nigerian Federal Government has been unjust to the Igbo. The Igbo are not a part of the nation in any socioeconomic activity.

“On multiple times, Prof. George Obiozor, President General of Ohanaeze, has warned President Buhari that the matter of Kanu is beyond the courts or the use of force, and that it demands a political solution.”

Obiozor asked the Federal Government to embrace the values of justice, equity, and fairness in order for Nigeria to thrive in real peace, progress, unity, and development.

“Obiozor also maintained that once the populace becomes aware of the presence of governance based on selective morality, outrageous paradox, and double standards, the desired legitimacy from the people becomes unattainable.”
